Course objectives

Understanding of fundamentals of project management methods and practices needed to achieve project goals effectively and efficiently.

At the end of this course participants will know and understand:

  • terms and concepts typical of management of projects,
  • characteristics of different types of projects as well as methods and approaches to project management practices
  • main problem management rules and principles and their influence on achieving projects targets

Participants will possess the basic knowledge which will allow them to:

  • manage simple projects,
  • involve in project tasks as members of project teams,
  • control and coordinate work in projects.
Training scope
  • Main project management concepts and terms: project, project management, project management method and the most common approaches towards management of projects: traditional approach (waterfall) and agile approach
  • Project environment: program management, project portfolio, project management office, stakeholder analysis
  • Initiation of the project: activities and required documentation
  • Project team: project management levels, steering committee, project manager, project team communication
  • Project scope: project products and their types, product breakdown structure, product flow diagram, work breakdown structure (WBS)
  • Schedule: scheduling, task interdependence, time and resource estimation and balancing, Gantt diagram, budget, critical path method, agile planning.
  • Quality in projects: definition of quality, quality expectations and acceptance criteria, quality management activities, product description
  • Risk: definition of risk and types of risk, risk management activities
  • Changes in projects: reporting and documenting changes, possible reactions to changes
  • Project closure: making decisions and actions taken when closing the project

All the people involved in projects, particularly project managers, project coordinators, member of projects teams (consultants, business analysts, project support staff – PMO) and everybody seeing the need for a controlled approach to managing projects.
