Magda Walasek, Business Process Consultant at Sii Poland, proves that it is possible. She effectively develops her professional path, at the same time conquering mountain trails, cycling hundreds of kilometers and building a community of people for whom activity is a lifestyle.

Remote work from the other side of the world, climbing 160 km in the Alps with Power People, second place on the podium in an ultra-bike race among women. All that while changing and developing her career path at Sii – these are just some of her adventures. With determination, courage and positive energy, Magda inspires those who believe that career and passion can go together.

Read the interview with Magda and find out how to combine your professional life with the fulfillment of your travel dreams.

What was the biggest sporting challenge for you and what are your plans for future in this area?

I don’t know if it was more of a sporting challenge or a mental challenge, but it took a lot of perseverance to climb the Tour du Mont Blanc last summer. Together with a group of crazy Power People from Sii, we walked 160 km in 10 days with an average daily elevation gain of 1 000 meters.

This year I’m betting heavily on cycling – starting in the gravel ultra Roztocze, and I have planned trips to the Czech Republic and Masuria! With trekking, I think I can already reveal, that we are going again as part of the Passion Sponsorship Program to the Dolomites, and on the way, I will certainly visit the Polish mountains.

How did you find out about the Tour du Mont Blanc project? What was the biggest challenge?

I found out about the expedition completely by accident. When it snowed last winter, we transformed our BikerSii community into a snowboard and ski group and started organizing trips to the local slopes. During one of such trips, a new person appeared – Martyna. She said that as a newly hired person, she joined many groups to find something for herself. She mentioned the Poznań community of TrekkerSii, which organizes trips to the mountains. I immediately asked her to add me there.

What was my surprise when I joined and came across a post about the Tour du Mont Blanc – a route that I was planning to do this year anyway! When I saw that it could be done as part of the Passion Sponsorship Program, I didn’t hesitate for a moment. This is how I joined the elite group of TdMB.

Thanks, Martyna!

Magda on Tour du Mont Blanc

What was the biggest challenge for you during the trip?

The biggest challenge during the trip turned out to be chafing feet. Unfortunately, my shoes often chafe me and this time it was the same. It’s hard to heal wounds when you walk more than 15 km in the mountains every day, so it was quite problematic. In addition, the fact that you have to walk along the trail regardless of how you feel – it can be difficult. Fortunately, we could count on each other in difficult moments and when I felt very bad, the group shared and carried my things from the backpack, which helped me a lot and was touching.

And what did you like the most?

What I liked the most was the atmosphere on the trail, unforced, relaxed, full of inspiring conversations, and sometimes silence that allowed me to think about it. I have the best memory of a one conversation on the trail, during which everyone shared their experiences and travel dreams. Thanks to this exchange, my list of places to visit has been extended by more items.

What does your experience with the Passion Sponsorship Program look like?

I used the program for the first time in 2021. It was a women’s bicycle trip to the Bieszczady Mountains. I have great memories of it, I met wonderful girls, and we did a lot of kilometers, and at the same time elevations. In the following years, I founded a local cycling group in Lublin, BikerSii. I am currently running the community together with two other colleagues from Lublin. Our group is already 2 years old and has 110 members. As part of the Passion Sponsorship Program, we have been on two trips – to Roztocze and Pieniny, of course we are already planning to apply for more grants.

Our trainings take place in the spring and summer season several times a month. Most often we set off in a group of about 15 people for a minimum 40 km route. In addition, this year we have established cooperation with a professional cyclist – Tomasz Bala, as part of which we organize trainings to improve riding technique and communication. There are also theoretical meetings, where we talk about bicycle maintenance and riding in theory.

I think that the greatest success of the Community is that people often organize themselves for trips in smaller groups, outside of “official” training. Our Teams group is also used to exchange knowledge, we talk about cool routes, advise on which bike to choose, and share races in the area.

What motivated you to take part in the Passion Sponsorship Program?

People who share the same passion and the opportunity to promote Sii. I really like the idea of creating sports outfits and gadgets with Sii branding. I think it’s important to promote sport and passionate people, it’s in line with my values.

BikerSii Community

Do you have any plans for future projects as part of the Passion Sponsorship Program? Any advice for people organizing their own projects?

Yes, as part of BikerSii Lublin we are planning a trip to Masuria. However, as part of the trekking group, we have an ambitious plan for climbing in the Dolomites. I think the best advice is to just give it a try! I’ve heard a lot of great ideas, but it’s a very long way from idea to implementation. Non-standard travel plans are certainly welcome as well.

You recently spent 2 months working remotely from Sri Lanka. Tell me where the idea for this course came from?

A few years ago, during the winter blues, I thought to myself that it would be great to move out for a while to a warmer place with more sun and a less depressing mood. When I was ready to make the decision to implement this idea, the criteria remained the same: it had to be warm, sunny, and relatively cheap. Sri Lanka came up in conversations with friends, so very spontaneously I chose itas the destination.

What did this trip give you in terms of your private life, but also your approach to work?

I have the impression that every trip is a lesson for me, this one was one too. It was a lesson about myself, about my fears, about the fact that sometimes it’s worth opening to what life brings. But also about the fact that everything depends on the perspective and true happiness is often hidden in simple things. When it comes to the approach to work, I found out that while working full-time, you can still make your travel dreams come true! You can have both at the same time, and work can be a part of it, not an obstacle.

What non-obvious lesson did you learn from working remotely in Sri Lanka – something you didn’t expect at all before you left?

I don’t know if you can call it a lesson, but it was surprising how the Sri Lankan system of work worked for me from 12.30 to 20.30 (Polish 8 to 16). I felt that I was using the day 100%. Before work, I went surfing, to the beach, rode a scooter around the surrounding villages or went out with friends for breakfast, so I had a sense of time well-spent, and I was fulfilled.

Your current role as a Business Process Consultant was not the starting point at Sii. What was your career path like?

I joined Sii in August 2020 as part of the Summer Talent Academy for the position of Receptionist. I appreciate this beginning very much, because I think it was a good position to get to know the organization itself and the people. After a year of working at the reception desk, I was recruited to the Procedures Department, where for two years I supervised the procedures and the process of creating positions and Job Description Sheets. I think that in this position I have deepened my knowledge of processes and roles at Sii.

After two years with procedures, I felt that I needed changes and so I took part in the recruitment for the position of Business Process Consultant in the Marketing department. I have been in this role for a year now. I can confidently say that I gained the most experience during this time. I oversee the systems, applications, websites and processes that report to the marketing department. I look for improvements, implement them, write requirements for internal IT projects and manage improvements. My job is to combine business requirements with Internal IT capabilities.

You have been working at Sii for 5 years. What was the most important turning point for you?

It’s funny, but the most transformative moment for me was also the most difficult and it was my last change of position, from Procedures Specialist to Business Process Consultant. I completely changed the area and scope of responsibilities, I got new challenges, which I needed very much. At the same time, it was a very difficult moment, because I joined the new department after a month’s absence, during which I travelled around Portugal and Spain, so I had to get back into the work routine and at the same time get used to completely new responsibilities.

What is your team currently working on?

As a marketing department, we are responsible for many areas, including Communication, CSR/ESG, Merchandising and Digital (which includes automation and online campaigns). Our entire team works like a well-oiled machine, carrying out many projects at the same time. Currently, we are primarily focusing on the development of our products; Sii.pl, Sii eShop and Siimification Program. At the same time, we run campaigns and create videos for clients, manage our social media, design graphics and develop merchandising. There is no shortage of work!

What fascinates you about your daily work? What are you most proud of?

Professionally, I am very proud of the Siimification Program that I supervise. I think that it is developing very well, is very popular and we have introduced some significant improvements.

What I like most about my daily work is working with people. I like people, I think you can learn a lot from each other, so I’m very happy that I could work with such different people from many areas daily. I am also very happy that I can see the real effects of my work – an implemented project or improvement always brings a lot of satisfaction.

In conclusion. Is there anyone who inspires you?

There are two people that inspire me the most – me from the past and me from the future. Me from the past – because I see how I have developed and Me from the future – because I know how much I can still achive. In addition, I am very inspired by my boyfriend, who, when he sets a goal, achieves it, and two wonderful girls from Instagram: Dominika Knitter (brave woman, amazing traveller) and Alicja Pyszka-Bazan (world record holder in Ultra Triathlon).

[5938,1182,4235
post-123416","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","tag-passion-sponsorship-program","tag-power-people","tag-recruitment
["CSR","Life of Sii
