Scaling and standardization of QA processes in a complex technological environment
In a global organization with a complex IT architecture, teams were using diverse testing tools, test frameworks and CI/CD solutions. A wide range of applications and technologies required a consistent testing approach that would ensure comparable quality standards and process efficiency across the entire organization.
Additionally, as systems evolved and the number of tests increased, the need grew to centralize QA activities and introduce a unified test automation strategy. Such an approach was required to enable knowledge sharing, reuse of test components and reduction of overall testing effort.
A significant portion of regression testing was performed manually, which limited the scale of automation and increased the demand for operational resources. To ensure higher quality, predictability and faster release cycles, ABB’s management decided to establish a global QA Automation Service based on best practices and modern test automation tools.
Centralized QA Automation Service based on Tricentis Tosca
The Sii Poland team designed and implemented a scalable test services model that enables test automation across multiple technological environments – from frontend applications to key enterprise systems such as SAP and Salesforce.
The scope of work included:
- Building a centralized QA Automation Service based on Tricentis Tosca, in line with the Tricentis methodology and industry best practices, with the involvement of certified Tosca Architects and Engineers
- Implementing Vision AI, enabling stable, self-healing, UI-based test automation, regardless of platform and technology
- Introducing codeless automation, allowing business teams to create and execute test cases without the need to write code
- Standardizing the approach to test automation within a single platform and a common strategy covering all organizational units
- Applying automation across key business domains, including SAP, Salesforce, PLM, Motion, Finance & Treasury and frontend applications
Faster deployments, lower costs and higher system quality
Thanks to the centralization of testing processes and the use of Tricentis Tosca, Sii Poland helped ABB achieve a consistent and scalable approach to QA automation, which accelerated the implementation of changes and improved the quality of delivered software.
Regression automation reduced manual effort by up to 70%, significantly shortening testing time and increasing team efficiency.
The new QA model increased the stability and quality of delivered systems, accelerated deployment cycles and enabled more frequent software releases. The introduction of codeless automation improved collaboration between technical and business teams, enabling their active involvement in the testing process without the need to write code.
Thanks to a unified strategy and a global approach to automation, ABB optimized QA costs, reduced duplication of work and improved the maintenance of test environments. The new testing model became the foundation for further development and standardization of processes across the entire organization.
Key results
- 60–70% less manual effort in regression testing
- Shorter test cycles and faster releases across the entire delivery chain
- Higher stability and quality of delivered systems
- Global optimization of QA costs through a unified strategy
- Improved collaboration between IT and business teams through the introduction of codeless automation
