Nationwide-scale automated sorting
In retail logistics, the growth of a nationwide store network increases pressure on distribution centers to prepare larger goods volumes quickly and repeatably. For the end customer, this meant the need for a more efficient sorting facility capable of supporting daily deliveries to stores across the country. At this scale, any downtime or delay during installation and startup could affect warehouse throughput and delivery timeliness to stores.
In the project to build Poland’s largest automated sorting center, the client needed a complete electrical installation as a critical enabler for launching the conveying and sorting system. The scope covered both power supply and equipment wiring, as well as the industrial communication infrastructure used to control conveyor operations. What mattered most from a business perspective was launch timing, the scale of the facility, and the ability to respond quickly to changing scope by adapting the schedule and team accordingly.
An additional requirement was to prepare equipment for commissioning in line with the integrator’s installation standards and the operating requirements of the retail network. The client needed a partner that could deliver the installation consistently, in line with project requirements, and then perform initial checks before commissioning on all electrically scoped devices to reduce the risk of errors and delays during commissioning. For this reason, the organization entrusted the work to Sii Poland’s experts.
Electrical installation, PROFINET communications, and commissioning readiness
Sii Poland took responsibility for delivering the complete electrical installation for the transport and sorting system in Poland’s largest automated sorting center. The team carried out the work in stages, adapting the schedule and resources to changing project scope. This gave the client an electrical scope ready for commissioning, with infrastructure delivered in line with the integrator’s installation standards and the operational requirements of the facility.
The scope of work included:
- Delivering the complete electrical installation for the transport and sorting system within the intralogistics facility
- Installing more than 7 000 meters of cable routes from scratch
- Executing installation work across 11 facility zones, including 1 chilled zone
- Completing full wiring for the conveyor system and connecting more than 90 main control cabinets
- Implementing the PROFINET communication network for the transport and sorting system
- Performing pre-commissioning of all equipment included in the electrical scope to prepare the environment for commissioning
- Delivering the work in line with the integrator’s installation standards and the operating requirements of the retail network
Higher throughput and readiness to scale
With Sii Poland’s delivery, the client could move into commissioning with the infrastructure required to operate a large-scale automated sorting center serving stores nationwide. The completed electrical installation and industrial communications created the foundation for higher throughput, shorter lead time, and greater operational resilience.
From a business perspective, the project also supported the scalability of the distribution center as the retail network continued to grow. Structured preparation of devices for commissioning, combined with execution aligned to project standards, supported a smoother transition into commissioning and helped enable faster, more stable, and timely handling of deliveries to stores.
