Jira established as a global, unified work management tool
Increased operational efficiency through integrations and automation
Dispersed work practices limiting collaboration and efficiency
Operating at a global scale, Autoliv relies on consistent engineering and project management processes across multiple countries, technology centers, and teams. However, the existing Jira Server setup did not fully support unified work practices or a consistent approach to collaboration across the organization.
Differences in configuration and usage limited the ability to standardize tracking and apply Atlassian best practices. As a result, tool adoption varied between teams, and operational efficiency was not fully optimized.
To address these challenges, Autoliv initiated a project to migrate Jira Server to the Cloud. The objective was clear: unify work practices, enhance collaboration, standardize tracking, and boost operational efficiency through a modern, globally aligned Jira environment.
Autoliv selected Sii due to its team of 50+ certified Atlassian specialists, official Atlassian partnership, and proven experience in implementing and standardizing Atlassian tools in complex engineering environments. Sii’s track record in the automotive, rail, and aeronautics provided additional assurance that the migration would address not only technical aspects, but also the operational realities of large, safety-focused organizations.
Structured Cloud migration and global Jira standardization
To ensure a controlled transition from Jira Server to Jira Cloud, Sii’s Atlassian experts delivered a structured, end-to-end migration approach tailored to Autoliv’s global operating model. The objective was not only to move the platform to the Cloud, but to establish a standardized and secure work management environment aligned with Atlassian best practices.
Sii began with a comprehensive audit of the existing Jira system and installed applications, assessing configuration, usage patterns, and dependencies. Based on the findings, the team prepared and executed the migration to Jira Cloud, ensuring continuity of data and system functionality.
The scope of work included:
- Conducting a full Jira system and apps audit
- Migrating Jira from Server to Cloud
- Integrating the Cloud environment with Active Directory and implementing Single Sign-On (SSO) and Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML) authentication
- Implementing Jira globally across all branches as a unified system for work tracking and reporting, gradually replacing equivalent tools used across the organization
- Training users and delivering practical guides and workshops to support adoption
- Supporting change management activities in close cooperation with Autoliv
Delivered in an Agile model, the project combined technical migration, governance standardization, and user enablement. As a result, Jira evolved from a locally configured tool into a globally aligned Cloud platform supporting unified work practices across the organization.
Global alignment, higher efficiency, and continuous improvement
Following the migration and standardization initiative, Jira became a global, unified work management tool across all Autoliv branches. By establishing Jira as a central source of truth, the company organized project management and eliminated the issue of dispersed project data previously stored across several applications. Teams now operate within a consistent framework, enabling clearer visibility, better coordination, and transparent tracking of work progress at scale.
Standardized project structures unified task naming, workflows, and statuses across countries, increasing process transparency and making project data more comparable between regions. As a result, management gained more reliable information to support planning, reporting, and decision-making.
Integrations with enterprise systems and automation mechanisms increased operational efficiency and reduced manual effort in daily work. Dashboards improved progress monitoring and action planning, boards supported the daily organization of project work, and the timesheet module introduced a more structured and accurate way to report working time.
In parallel, user training, practical guides, and workshops established a structured onboarding path, while the Continuous Improvement process ensured that the Jira environment could continue to evolve in line with Autoliv’s organizational needs and Atlassian best practices.
