Cloud-first is coming – how to prepare your e-commerce? Summary of the Adobe Commerce Bootcamp

12.08.2025

During the two-day Adobe Commerce Technical Bootcamp in Barcelona, participants — including our e-commerce consulting team — had the opportunity to take a close look at the future of the Adobe Commerce platform. And while Adobe is not ending support for PHP-based solutions, the message was clear: the “cloud-first” strategy is becoming a reality, and the future of the platform lies in modern, flexible SaaS services.

A new direction – less PHP, more cloud

Adobe is now focusing its future investments and innovation efforts around the Adobe Commerce platform on cloud-based services. The development of the core Adobe Commerce engine in PHP (Hypertext Preprocessor) is no longer a priority. Instead, the development strategy centers on modern, scalable, and automated solutions:

  • Adobe Commerce as a Cloud Service (ACCS) – a fully managed SaaS version of the platform that eliminates the need for manual infrastructure management, updates, or security handling.
  • Adobe Commerce Optimizer (ACO) – a performance and conversion optimization engine that analyzes operational data and provides actionable recommendations for digital commerce.
  • Edge Delivery Services – a modern frontend layer built on an edge-first architecture, designed for speed, composability, and excellent SEO performance. Integrated with ACCS and ACO, it enables the creation of ultra-fast, optimized websites that meet the highest Core Web Vitals standards.

This marks a significant step toward simplifying architecture, increasing scalability, and shortening deployment times – without the need for extensive local infrastructure or costly updates.

Key topics from the Adobe Bootcamp 2025

The Bootcamp in June wasn’t just about presentations – it also featured intensive technical workshops. Participants worked hands-on with the latest components of the Adobe Commerce ecosystem:

  • Edge Delivery Services – a new approach to frontend delivery focused on performance and load times. Attendees configured and customized EDS environments themselves.
  • Extensibility Starter Kits – ready-to-use starter kits designed to accelerate extension development in a headless architecture.
  • Adobe SDK UI – tools for safely and modernly customizing the admin panel, aligned with cloud architecture principles.
  • Ingestion Pipelines – integration of operational data with Adobe Commerce Optimizer for further analysis.

There were also strategic sessions, including:

  • Publishing Applications on Adobe Marketplace – practical guidance on preparing and certifying extensions for distribution within Adobe’s official ecosystem.
  • Pricing Models for Cloud Customers – a presentation outlining cost differences between the traditional Adobe Commerce cloud offering and the new Optimizer and Cloud Service solutions.

What does this mean for current Adobe Commerce users?

Adobe emphasizes that it is not abandoning its customers – security updates and PHP version support will continue to be delivered. However, from a development perspective, it’s the new SaaS components that will receive new features, integrations, and tools.

Organizations using Adobe Commerce should begin planning for migration or integration with the new services:

  • For cloud customers – migration to the new services can be relatively straightforward, especially if the infrastructure is already within the Adobe ecosystem.
  • For on-premise customers – a deeper technical analysis and a shift in deployment approach will be necessary, but tools are available to support this transition.

Why is Adobe Cloud the right business choice?

Adobe’s new approach is more than just a technological shift – it’s a change in philosophy:

  • Scalability and flexibility – headless architecture, API-based integrations, and easy feature customization without modifying the core.
  • Security and stability – updates and patches are delivered automatically, without risking application disturbance.
  • Faster time-to-market – with ready-made starter kits, optimized pipelines, and available infrastructure, new solutions can be built and deployed more quickly.
