An Idea for the holidays? Tricity developers teach programming from scratch
The Sii company, for the second year in a row, is organizing a free, innovative, educational program, the Geek Academy, addressed to persons who want to start their career in IT. This summer, a group of 25 enthusiasts of new technologies, will learn how to program. An idea for summer days? Intensive training of coding from scratch with the Geek Academy. The organizers of the Academy provide a large dose of practical knowledge coming from experienced programmers, testers and system architects.
For most of the participants, the Geek Academy opens doors to a professional career as programmers or testers – this is confirmed by lots of students of the first edition of the Academy. People who had no professional experience, but for a long time were passionate about new technologies have signed up for the program. Each participant has an interesting story or different reasons why they decide to change their career path. A lawyer, a beautician, a builder and a chemist participated, among others, in the Geek Academy. Some of them even quit their jobs or decided to take night shifts, to be able to participate in the daily classes.
Was it worth it? Alicja Sawicka, Head of Recruitment and HR answers – Definitely yes. In the previous edition of the Geek Academy, in just one month, we were able to introduce more than 20 people to the labor market, ready to swell the ranks of the Tri-City’s IT companies, 14 of them landed a job at Sii. We have developed a program that responds to the needs of business and, what is important, which is practical. We are building on the best practices developed during the first edition so I am convinced that this year we will also be very successful.
Pawel Czapiewski – called the “rector” of the Geek Academy and professionally connected with Sii as a Senior Software Engineer, sheds light on the content of the upcoming edition – Our students will learn the methodologies of software development and master new languages: Python and C #, as well as gain a general knowledge of software quality assurance. From the very beginning we teach teamwork in the spirit of Agile. The Geek Academy is an opportunity to gain qualifications valuable on the labor market and to develop technical competence.
The second edition of the Geek Academy starts on August 1st and will last a month. Classes will be held five times a week for 7 hours each day, from Monday to Friday, in the largest in the Tri-City, prestigious complex – the Olivia Business Centre. The fully equipped class room will be located in the Sii office. To join the Academy apply by sending your CV to [email protected] before the 9th of July 2016. The selection of candidates is based on an interview and a test section.
