Tailored solution for a global healthcare provider. A decade of collaboration between Fresenius and Sii

Ten years ago, Fresenius faced a choice that many companies solve simply by buying an off-the-shelf product: managing risk and internal controls across an organization spread around the world, one that had previously relied mainly on Excel and disconnected local solutions. Fresenius chose a different path, betting on building its own tools: FIRM (Fresenius Integrated Risk Management application) and ICS (Internal Control Standards), together with Sii.
The new Sii Talks series, “Built, not bought: 10 Years of Fresenius × Sii,” features episodes with four individuals from Fresenius, a company with which Sii Poland has been collaborating for 10 years. Fresenius is a global leader, originating in the German market, operating in the fields of hospital management, engineering, and services for medical centers and other healthcare facilities.
A tailor-made solution
In this four-episode conversation, hosted by Holger Baum, Account Executive at Sii Poland, the discussion focuses on why Fresenius decided to partner with Sii to create a platform tailored to the organization’s needs.
The episodes feature representatives from Fresenius:

From conversations with four people involved in this project – Christian, Michael, Thomas, and Verena – one common thread emerges, even though each of them views the collaboration from a different angle. Building in-house meant more work upfront, but it delivered something no ready-made product could offer: a perfect fit for the specifics of an organization that spans hospitals, manufacturing sites, and corporate functions alike, as well as the freedom to decide independently where the solution should go next.
The benefits of a decade-long partnership
After 10 years of cooperation and using tailored-made solution provided by Sii Poland, Fresenius particularly values the ability to respond quickly to changing regulations and business needs, without waiting on an external vendor.
FIRM has become, for Fresenius, “the single reliable source of risk information and a place used by the board, auditors, and subject matter experts alike, as well as people outside the risk management function.”
ICS, in turn, built something that had been missing before: a shared language and a shared place to document controls across the organization, where until now each segment handled things on its own.
The interviewees also consistently highlight the role of close collaboration between the teams. Sii’s involvement from the design phase onward, not just at implementation, which translated into sharper decisions and fewer costly fixes down the line. Looking ahead, all four points in the same direction: deeper integration of FIRM and ICS into one cohesive ecosystem, and AI that can help automatically flag gaps in the risk register and improve the quality of descriptions.
