Do you want to start or advance your career in project management? This course is your chance to gain a solid theoretical and practical foundation. We will provide you with the essential knowledge of leading methodologies such as Prince2, PMBOK, and Agile. You will learn specific actions from planning and organizing to monitoring and closing projects. You will also discover tools that will facilitate your daily work, enabling you to confidently step into the world of project management.

What you’ll learn

  • Fundamental concepts and aspects of project management.
  • Difference between project implementation approaches based on the chosen methodology (Prince2, PMBOK, Agile, DSDM Atern).
  • Project lifecycle in both waterfall and agile approaches.
  • To organize, plan, and launch a project by creating the necessary management documentation (e.g., business case, project charter, registers).
  • To work with schedules, budgets, and the basics of project cost management.
  • To manage communication, change, and risk within a project.
  • Tools for planning, monitoring, and reporting projects (MS Project, Redmine, MS Excel, Jira) and learn how to select the right ones.
  • Which official certifications are useful for project managers and how to obtain them.

Certificate and exam

Upon completion of the course, you will receive a named certificate confirming the skills you have acquired in project management. There is no final exam; active participation in the classes is required.

Course schedule

Day 1

  • Basic concepts – an introduction and discussion of concepts used in the world of project management, including: project, process, scope, risk, quality, tolerance, product, project management, sponsor, stakeholder, steering committee, WBS, SOW, SIWZ, PMO.
  • Introduction to projects – a discussion and explanation of aspects related to projects:
    • Why do we run projects?
    • What are the types of projects, how do they differ, and how to identify them using leading methodologies: Prince2, PMBOK, Agile, DSDM Atern.
    • How does a project interact with its environment and what are the implications?
    • What competencies, tasks, and skills are associated with the role of a Project Manager?
  • Phases and stages in projects – dividing a project into parts according to leading methodologies – an introduction.
  • Exercises – reinforcing knowledge through practical tasks related to the discussed material.

Day 2

  • Phases and stages in projects according to leading methodologies – continuation. A discussion of the project lifecycle in waterfall and agile approaches based on methodologies. An explanation of the differences between the project lifecycle and the project’s product lifecycle.
  • Project organization – a discussion of the actions needed to organize, plan, and launch a project based on leading methodologies. Topics covered include:
    • Project planning, preparation of management documentation, the magic triangle.
    • Project initiation (Business Case, Project Charter).
    • Risk register, Change register, Product register.
    • Project scope, products, and project tasks using WBS and PBS.
  • Exercises – reinforcing and checking knowledge from the discussed material.

Day 3

  • Organizing a project – a continuation of the previous day’s scope, including:
    • Working with the schedule.
    • Organizing, implementing, and managing quality in a project.
    • Project budget and cost management.
    • Project management plan.
  • Project processes – an introduction and discussion of management using processes based on leading project management methodologies. Topics covered include:
    • Communication management process, RACI Matrix, Communication management plan.
    • Change management process, using the change register.
    • Risk management.
    • Time management in a project.
  • Exercises to reinforce the knowledge conveyed.

Day 4

  • Project processes and management using them – a continuation of the previous day’s scope, including:
    • Quality management process.
    • Process of controlling, monitoring, and reporting progress and project status.
    • Project closing process and post-project activities.
  • Tools used in a project – familiarizing participants with the needs of a Project Manager and selecting the appropriate tools. Topics covered:
    • Selection of the right tools.
    • Planning, monitoring, and reporting a project using tools: MS Project, Redmine, MS Excel, Jira.
  • Career paths after the course – a discussion of possible next steps for developing in the role of a Project Manager. Topics covered:
    • Discussion of leading methodologies.
    • A review of certification paths.
    • Practical advice and tips.
  • Exercises to reinforce the knowledge conveyed using project management tools: schedule, tasks, resources, time, monitoring execution.
