Power People’s passion for helping: Discover what Sii Volunteers accomplished in 2024

Every year, Sii allocates 1 000 000 PLN for volunteering and pursuing the passions of Workers through the Sii Power Volunteers and Passion Sponsorship Programs. For 9 years now, Power People have been realizing their ideas for social activities, as well as for animals thanks to the grants they received. Read the article and discover what the initiatives are all about and what the Sii Power Volunteers achieved in 2024.

As part of the Sii Power Volunteers Program, in 2024 Workers have been involved in more than 50 projects. Through the activities of Power People, help has been provided to the sick, seniors, the lonely, children and youth, as well as people experiencing homelessness and flood victims.

– We want the aid to go where it is needed most and be used best. We achieve this goal through the involvement of our workers, who best understand the needs of local communities and engage their colleagues in their ideas. Such activities ensure the effectiveness and relevance of the volunteer actions carried out and achieve two of the company’s strategic goals: Fun and Employee Satisfaction – says Aleksandra Kuna, CSR/ESG Manager at Sii Poland.

Support for the youngest

For the following year in a row, one of our biggest projects focused on helping children from orphanages. Our support took various forms, including organizing artistic, culinary, and technological workshops for the kids, arranging integration outings that help them grow and find joy despite their daily challenges, renovating their living spaces, and giving them Christmas gifts.

As an example of the support of the youngest, Sii Poland volunteers established cooperation with two Orphanages: “Nowy Dom” in Przybysławice and “Dworek” in Dąbrowica. Thanks to Sii’s financial support, Michał and his team renovated the institutions, organized art workshops, and made the children’s dreams of visiting Energylandia, a famous theme park, come true.

– The most important thing for us, as volunteers, was to build friendly relationships with the children. Growing up in foster institutions, they often lack adult role models. While no one can replace parents, listening, advising, and spending time together playing or talking is what they need – comments Michał Domański, Junior DevOps Engineer at Sii Poland, the project leader.

In addition, volunteers from Sii Poland acted as Santa Clause helpers, preparing and delivering the Christmas gifts the children dreamed of. The initiative in Lublin was one of eight such projects across various cities in Poland, involving as many as 390 of our workers. Thanks to their dedication, Christmas aid reached more than 350 children and adults in need nationwide.

Help for the animals

The second area that engaged many volunteers focused on supporting animals. This included projects where workers helped at shelters and organized fairs to collect funds and items needed by animals. Similar activities were held in five cities across Poland.

– The greatest satisfaction in helping others comes from knowing that with a small amount of effort, we can truly improve someone’s life. “Psii Patrol” is a project that not only helps animals but also allows our workers to enjoy a pleasant afternoon walking their dogs – adds Anna Kolasa, Internal IT Problem Manager at Sii Poland, and leader of the “Psii Patrol” project in Rzeszów.

Another initiative involved cooperation with the Working Dogs Foundation, which is dedicated to educating children and adults to improve the standard of living for dogs. As part of the educational project “My Friend, the Dog”, our volunteers, along with experts from the foundation, conducted workshops in two kindergartens in Szczecin. As a result, the youngest children learned how to play safely with their four-legged friends.

Education also extended to adult workers, who participated in the webinar ” Dog and Man: A Safe Relationship” as part of the cooperation. Additionally, the children of our workers took part in a contest to create a mascot named Psiiak, who will accompany the foundation’s experts in future preschool training sessions.

Helping people experiencing homelessness

In 2024, from the initiative of three different Workers, a global action was created to holistically support people experiencing homelessness. In nine cities, Sii Power Volunteers conducted a collection of clothing, underwear and equipment necessary to survive the winter for the benefit of the charges of the organizations “Daj Herbatę” and “Serce Torunia”. In addition, for each kilogram of clothing donated by Power People, the company contributed 45 PLN, supporting the purchase of necessary items, including a washing machine for the headquarters of the foundation in Toruń, where the foundation’s wards will be able to wash their clothes.

In addition, activities for the homeless were also carried out in Warsaw, where cooking and serving meals were organized in cooperation with the Gy Dzioung Norbu Foundation. The initiative was coordinated by Mateusz Małek, who, along with volunteers, renovated the kitchen and supported the organization in meal preparation.

– I am motivated to social action by the urge to experience life in a community, the joy of acting together, gratitude for the help received, and using my talents for something more than my satisfaction – comments Mateusz Małek, Senior System Administrator at Sii Poland, and coordinator of the Feed the Hungry project.

Power Volunteers also organized a webinar with an expert from “Daj Herbatę” Foundation on the problem of homelessness in Poland, which was open to all interested Sii Workers.

Together to get through oncological diseases

In 2024, volunteers from Sii Poland carried out three actions to benefit oncology patients. Two of these took place at the Puck Hospice, where workers from Gdańsk renovated the garden after wintertime and created a space for the wards to spend time with their families in the fresh air.

Another action involved renovating the Pro Morte room, a space for farewells. Participants also had the opportunity to attend psychological workshops aimed at better understanding life in the hospice.

– Helping is not only a matter of providing material things, but also of offering our presence. Sometimes what seems like a small gesture to us, can be a big help to others. I appreciate that Sii offers to support such initiatives, which I think is really unique and valuable – adds project leader Roksana Rau, Mechanical Design Engineer at Sii Poland.

In addition, Sii Poland organized a project to support oncology patients, #SiiBiegaDobrze. It brought together 75 Workers who joined the challenge to combine their athletic passion with their desire to help. Over the three months, the participants trained to compete in the 46th Nationale-Nederlanden Warsaw Marathon and the Nice to Fit You Warsaw 10-kilometer run. The preparations took place under the guidance of a professional running coach, Joanna Dorociak.

For some of them it was the beginning of their running adventure, and some fought to break the time record at the chosen distance. As the end result of this charity project, the runners raised funds for the Rak’n’Roll Foundation, totaling more than 68 000 PLN.

We are all equal – cooperation with people with intellectual disabilities

“Równi Goście” (Equal Fellows) are wards of the Adapa Foundation, which supports adults with intellectual disabilities. As part of the project, undertaken in cooperation with the foundation, four wards from the foundation turned into instructors for a day and conducted workshops on creating T-shirts for Sii Workers. The meeting was an opportunity for them to learn about the IT industry and visit the office in Gdańsk.

– The project provided the foundation’s wards with the opportunity to experience the role of instructors and gain professional activation for the first time in their lives. For us, it was a chance to better understand people with disabilities and demonstrate how important and necessary they are in society – emphasizes Marcelina Kwapisiewicz, CSR/ESG Specialist at Sii Poland and co-leader of the project.
