TRAINING OBJECTIVE

Learning the basic principles of managing projects along with the tools that will allow to achieve project goals efficiently.

RECIPIENTS

All persons involved in projects (regardless of industry or subject matter) and being project managers, project team members and other project stakeholders.

BENEFITS

  • basic concepts of project management in Waterfall and Agile approaches
  • tools to prepare various types of projects
  • how to use the tools
  • how to use the tools efficiently

Participants will gain detailed knowledge that will allow them to:

  • manage simple projects from a PM perspective
  • you will learn the most popular techniques and tools supporting the PM’s work
  • you will get the knowledge and tools to organize work of teams working both on-site and from home
  • use the basic project management tools at a basic level
  • take part in projects as project team members
  • supervising projects and control work progress
  • basic information on tools such as MS Project, Jira, Confluence, Slack, Smartsheet, Azure DevOps (as a management tool), applications for WBS
SCOPE

Day 1:

  • Basic concepts related to project management: project, project management, methodology of project management: traditional approach (Waterfall) and agile approach (Agile)
  • Project environment: project management, project portfolio, project office, stakeholder analysis
  • Overview of basic functions of management tools
    – task management
    – teamwork
    – project planning
    – time management
    – risk management
    – reporting tools
    – administration tools
  • Why the tools should be automated, integrated, and should offer the ability to configure

Day 2

  • Organization of a project team using MS Project and the RACI matrix
  • Project scope: project products and their kinds with the use of the WBS method
  • Scheduling: creating a schedule, dependencies between tasks, estimating and balancing time and resources, Gantt chart, budget, critical path analysis – more advanced work with MS Project
  • Building a unified ecosystem with the use of tools such as MS Project, Jira, Azure DevOps

Day 3

  • Quality in projects: definition of quality, quality expectations and acceptance criteria, quality management activities with the use of management tools
  • Risk: definition of risk and types of risks, risk management activities and incorporating this into project documentation using available tools
  • Project progress reporting and communication with stakeholders

Day 4

  • Changes in projects: reporting and documenting changes, possible reactions to changes using Change Log (MS Excel)
  • Closing projects: decision-making and actions taken during project closure – documentation.

Day 5

  • Scheduling in the Agile approach using MS Project, Smartsheet
  • Sprint/timebox planning using the tools in Jira, Confluence
  • How to build ‘user story’ and ‘epic’
  • How to build tasks
  • Building, managing and reporting backlog

Day 6

  • Ceremonies and tools supporting daily work used during:
    – Sprint planning – how to do it (objectives vs. tasks)
    – Daily stand-up using Kanban board
    – Progress analysis during sprints/timeboxes using Kanban board and charts (burn down chart)
    – Retrospective – meeting objectives and tools to build engagement during meetings (e.g., Dixit)
    – Backlog refinement vs. backlog grooming – effective meeting management using the agenda
    – Sprint review – meeting objectives and tools used during a meeting
  • Can the Waterfall methodology and Agile approach be combined and how to do it – a short introduction.
