Safe journey with Sii Poland – how to implement projects based on the Safety Integrity Level standard in the rail sector
In the railway sector, minimizing the risk of safety-threatening situations and ensuring passengers’ safety has strategic importance. Today, the compliance with the Safe Integrity Level (SIL) standards has become a universally accepted norm. However, it also poses an additional challenge in technological projects. The Sii Poland’s team comprised of software developers and testers took part in the implementation of the Frequency Generator project – an advanced solution in the area of rail traffic control used on the Hoekse Lijn, a line of the Rotterdam Metro.
The detailed study of the project carried out by an international team of specialists including Sii experts presents the basic issues related to the implementation of projects, characterized by strict safety requirements in the area of rail transport:
- Qualifications and competence demands for developers working in the projects subject to SIL-4 security standard.
- Advantages of the cooperation model based on Team Leasing in the projects carried out by international teams.
- Key importance of dual-channel approach in terms of hardware and allocation of responsibilities within the team.
- Means of maximizing the effectiveness of cooperation while creating solutions that require specialized measuring devices.
