IT service management in the era of digital transformation. The latest ITIL®4 training programme now realized by the Sii Training Practice
At the beginning of this year, the latest, fourth edition of ITIL® was published with a much wider and more practical knowledge base. The Sii offer includes the training programme on the basics of IT project management in line with the assumptions of this new concept, which is the result of work carried out by over 150 experts from around the world.
ITIL® (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) is a collection of best IT service management practices, which has defined the way many of the world’s largest organizations operate over the last 30 years. ITIL® became popular due to the fact that the practices described within it can be applied effectively to any industry, regardless of its standards, methodologies and operating models. Over subsequent years, the collection of best practices changed so as to best respond to the current challenges faced by IT teams.
Changes in the IT sector and service management
– In February 2019, the 4th edition of ITIL® was published. It’s a response to new technologies and management methods that have been recognized by IT departments over recent years – explains Rafał Kwatek, Training Practice Manager Deputy & Trainer at Sii Poland. – We need to remember that the previous version of ITIL® was created over 10 years ago and was only subjected to minor modifications in 2011. Since then, a lot has changed in the IT world. AI has gained traction, along with machine learning, robotic process automation, data science, blockchain or the Internet of things. In addition, mobile and cloud solutions have become popular. The ITIL®4 authors recognize these changes and give us a solution based on the unchanging foundations of IT service management adapted to an era of digital transformation – Kwatek elaborates.
In ITIL®4, we find many concepts familiar from previous versions of the library. The new edition is also based on the assumption that the role of IT is to deliver value to the customer by providing IT services that support the client in obtaining the business results they want. Also the most popular concepts defined in the ITIL® best practice dictionary, such as “incident”, “problem” or “change” are present in the 4th edition. So what’s new?
– The new edition focuses primarily on providing a practical approach that supports organizations in the implementation of digital transformations. The ITIL®4 model is better suited to organizations with a flexible approach to management, based on frameworks such as Lean, Agile or DevOps – says Rafał Kwatek.
ITIL®4 training in Sii Training Practice programmes
Since March 2019, Sii Training Practice has offered clients training in the new, fourth edition of the library – ITIL®4 Foundation – introducing participants to the key assumptions underlying the concept of IT service management.
– We want to give our clients the best and most up-to-date solutions, which is why we will be regularly adding any accredited ITIL®4 training courses that are available on the market to our range of training programmes – assures Rafał Kwatek.

The new scheme assumes the possibility to update the ITIL® (V3) certificate only at the level of ITIL® (V3) Expert. The ITIL®4 Managing Professional (MP) Transition training, which will probably appear on the market at the end of 2019, will serve this purpose. By mid-2020, it will still be possible to participate in training for ITIL® version 3 in order to obtain the ITIL® (V3) Expert certificate. Obtaining this certificate requires completion of the training and passing an ITIL® (V3) Managing across the Lifecycle level exam and obtaining a minimum of 17 credits from other certificates along the ITIL® (V3) path.

As for the Foundation level, previous certificates will not be updated. Individuals who want to obtain an ITIL®4 Foundation certificate should complete a new course and pass the exam, regardless of whether or not they have a certificate from version 3. Currently, ITIL®4 Foundation training courses and examinations are only available in an English language version. A Polish version will be released in the coming months.
– Millions of professionals around the world work according to ITIL® best practices. Every year, new companies apply them, adapt their business practices, and improve the qualifications of their employees in this area – says Rafał Kwatek. – This investment gives quick returns. ITIL® practices help you to attain better quality and adapt IT services to your business needs while also reducing costs. IT operations are modernized and communication improved, which directly translates into greater efficiency and, as a result, user and customer satisfaction – Kwatek adds.
