Keeping up with application integration

There is no efficient organization without integrated systems and automated processes. To keep the pace of ever-changing business, integration solutions evolved into low-code, rapid-development platforms. However, the self-service approach and ease of visual development came with the price of high maintenance costs when at a large scale. Anything that grows into hundreds or thousands of integrations eventually becomes cluttered with dependencies and slows the business acceleration down. Sii engineers have seen this too many times not to come up with a solution supporting clients worldwide.

Answers in a graph

Any integration platform is full of information about connections, routes, transformations, schemas, versions, even traces of the authors of particular components, and much more. The vast majority of it remains unseen to the eye, or is simply scattered and useless. This is where Sii’s technology and expertise come in to extract raw definitions and build a central graph database.

– The idea of reverse engineered integration platform has always been a missing piece for me and my team. It first surfaced years ago and evolved over the years though many iterations until we discovered how helpful a graph data model can be. Data science approach, as it turns out, makes a lot of sense, when applied to a vastly technical scenario such as ours – explains Adam Buksztaler, Solution Architect at Sii Poland.

Sii’s solution can be compared to a universe of connected entities and relations – the moment you ask a question, it provides answers. What are the most complex integrations and why? What will be the impact if you change this bit? What is the difference between two environments? What was deployed this week? What integrations is this system involved into? With a well-populated graph database, you get to know this in no time.

Know it inside out with Sii

As proved by the story of one of Sii’s clients, every change can be a challenge at an enterprise level. The global healthcare company faced the end of support of their integration solution. Migration to a newer, supported version was unavoidable, but the scale made planning and decision-making almost impossible. To ensure that the project meets the established objective as well as adheres to the company’s standards, all tasks were delegated to Sii Poland.

After building a graph representation of the client’s platform, Sii specialists had no doubt about what areas are the most complex ones and expensive to migrate, what should go first and what should be bundled together. The graph representation covered a wide rage of questions, from connected systems, through relations between integration components, down to single code pieces used. This brought the migration to the level never reached before − from securing the budget, through identifying stakeholders and owners, to technical confidence. Our client continues to use the approach, bringing more and more quality and control over their integration layer.

– With digital transformation and agility pushing companies for cloud-oriented services, we carry out more and more projects based on the graph data model for the healthcare & life science industry. Agnostic to the integration technology and cloud platform, Sii can provide services where decision-makers and stakeholders in a helicopter view can gather answers to their questions, working hand-in-hand as a professional business partner – Wojciech Drescher, Head of Industry at Sii Poland, sums up.
